Privacy policy

Math Board is built to know as little about you as possible: no accounts, no ads, no tracking. This page says exactly what the site does with data.

Who we are

Math Board (mathboard.datapad.tools) is run by ‹operator›. Questions about this policy or about your data: ‹support email›.

In short

  • No accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no third-party analytics or trackers.
  • Your boards stay in your browser unless you share them.
  • Shared boards and lessons are encrypted in your browser; our server cannot read them.
  • We never sell or share data.

Boards on your device

Boards, their images and your settings are stored in your browser (IndexedDB and local storage), on your device. They are not sent to us. Clearing the site's data in your browser deletes them, so download important boards as files to keep a copy.

Shared links

When you share a board, your browser encrypts it with a new key (AES-256-GCM). The key is only in the link, after the #, which browsers never send to a server. We store the encrypted bytes, which we cannot read, with the dates the link was made and expires.

A shared link is deleted when it expires (if nobody opens it, after the number of days chosen when sharing; each opening keeps it 90 days longer), when the person who shared it stops sharing, or when we remove it.

Lessons with students

Everything between the teacher and the students is end-to-end encrypted. Our server only passes sealed messages on, keeping them in memory until they are delivered. It sees the lesson's id, the participants' technical ids and public keys, and the size and timing of messages; never the content, students' names or the teacher's key. Nothing of a lesson is stored on disk.

AI assistants

Create with AI: you copy the request into a chat of your choice (for example ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini), and the answer is checked in your browser. We receive nothing. The chat service's own privacy policy applies to what you send it.

The Math Board connector (MCP, https://mathboard.datapad.tools/api/mcp): when an assistant checks or publishes a board, our server reads the board text in memory to check it, and does not log or keep it. A published board is stored as an encrypted shared link, as above. We receive only what the assistant sends to our tools, never your conversation.

When you give an assistant a shared link to read, the link with its key reaches our server for that one request: the board is decrypted in memory, given to the assistant and not kept. A live link ("Work with AI on this board") passes the board between your browser and the assistant through the server's memory while the link is open; nothing is stored.

We count tool calls and the name the assistant's software gives itself (such as "claude-ai"), never board content.

Visitor statistics

To see how the site is used, a page sends an anonymous note when it opens: the kind of page (never the id of a board or a lesson), device type, operating system, browser, screen size, language, the website you came from (its address only), and whether you have visited before (a flag kept in your browser).

Visits on one day are told apart by a keyed hash of the day, your IP address and your browser's description. The IP address itself is not stored, and the hash changes every day, so visits on different days cannot be linked. These records are deleted after about 13 months.

Technical data

To protect the service from abuse, the server keeps IP addresses in memory for a few minutes, to limit how many requests one address can make. Like most websites, our web server may keep standard access logs (IP address, time, the address requested, browser) for security and troubleshooting, for a limited time.

Cookies

The site sets two cookies, only to remember your choices: lang (the language) and theme (light or dark), each for a year. There are no tracking or advertising cookies.

Sharing with others

We do not sell, rent or share data with anyone. The site runs on our own server and uses no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking services. We would disclose data only if the law requires it, and what we hold of boards and lessons is encrypted and unreadable to us.

Children and students

Math Board is a tool for teachers. Students may join a lesson under a name; names travel end-to-end encrypted and are never seen by our server. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Teachers: please keep students' personal details off shared boards.

Your choices and rights

You control your boards: delete them in your browser, or stop sharing a link at any time. As there are no accounts and we hold no data that identifies you, we usually cannot find data about a particular person. If you think we hold some, write to ‹support email› and we will help, including with requests under data-protection laws such as the GDPR.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
